Evaluation Task 1
1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products ?
8/9 Here are two shots of two different music videos where they have used similar narratives. Both are about athletes striving to be the best they can be. The music videos follow their lives and show the types of struggles they encounte
1 Here we see a clip from ‘Not Afraid’ by Eminem. As Eminem says the opening lines of ‘I’m not afraid’ there’s a clip of him standing on top of a very tall building. This illustrates his lyrics as he is clearly not afraid of standing on a building edge, very high up.
2 Here is a shot of the lead singer from ‘My Chemical Romance’, they are a typical rock genre band and therefore the record label would want them to be represented from the conventions of this genre. In this shot we see him represented purely through black and white, with black clothes and face make up to make him seem paler. This is showing the artists goth like style which is typical for this genre.
3 This is a shot taken from Flo Rida’s music video. The shot is split into three parts; each shows typical traits of a hip hop genre video. We see the artist in the middle, with a gold chain and sunglasses on. This is a very conventional way to represent the artist in this genre. Girls dancing are also another convention of this genre, which is what we see in the other parts of the shot.
4 This is a shot from the music video ‘Decode’ by Paramour. This video used intratextual references as it was used as a song for the movie ‘Twilight’. Throughout the music video there are shots from the movie which links in with the same theme as the performance shots.
5 This is a shot taken from the opening scene of ‘The Fighter’ by the Gym Class Heroes. Here we see a close up of the character’s face, this shot expresses the emotion in the character, which works well with the theme of the video.
6 Here is a shot taken from ‘Hall Of Fame’ music video from The Script. They wanted to create a silhouette effect which represents the characters dreams and ambitions. In this case as the character sleeps, they show a silhouette of him as a professional boxer. In order to create this effect they would have had to use particular lighting effects during the editing process as well as the filming process.
7 This is an establishing shot, used to show the mise en scene of the location. From this shot we can instantly see the area this character grew up in and gives off the impression that he may have had a tough upbringing, living in a poor part of New York. Having this shot in black and white emphasizes this point.

Flashing Light Effect

Silhouette Effect
we needed to create a silhouette effect of the boxer, similar to the effect in the Hall Of Fame video by The Script (picture below).
To do this, we needed to find a dark room with no natural source of light and place a bright light in there. We then played around with the light positioning and the distance the boxer stands from the light and the camera.
Here are some of the pictures we took of the effect we created as well as a video of an example of the effect:

Market Research Questionnaire Conclusion
From the questionnaire i have gathered a lot of useful information on what the audience thinks of some of my magazine advert and album cover drafts.
I have analysed these results and used them to work out what final idea i want to do.
I have come up with the idea of using the image of camera flashing behind the silhouette oh the boxer as the front of the album cover, however, as the boxing gloves image got a very good response i will also use that in the digi-pack, possibly as the back cover.
For the magazine advert, i want to use the boxing poster. This got a lot of positive feed back and fits in perfectly with the theme of the music video.
Here are some pictures which I intend to use for the adverts and digi-pack:
