Here we see a clip from ‘Not Afraid’ by Eminem. As Eminem says the opening lines of ‘I’m not afraid’ there’s a clip of him standing on top of a very tall building. This illustrates his lyrics as he is clearly not afraid of standing on a building edge, very high up.
Here is a shot of the lead singer from ‘My Chemical Romance’, they are a typical rock genre band and therefore the record label would want them to be represented from the conventions of this genre. In this shot we see him represented purely through black and white, with black clothes and face make up to make him seem paler. This is showing the artists goth like style which is typical for this genre.
This is a shot taken from Flo Rida’s music video. The shot is split into three parts; each shows typical traits of a hip hop genre video. We see the artist in the middle, with a gold chain and sunglasses on. This is a very conventional way to represent the artist in this genre. Girls dancing are also another convention of this genre, which is what we see in the other parts of the shot.
This is a shot from the music video ‘Decode’ by Paramour. This video used intratextual references as it was used as a song for the movie ‘Twilight’. Throughout the music video there are shots from the movie which links in with the same theme as the performance shots.
This is a shot taken from the opening scene of ‘The Fighter’ by the Gym Class Heroes. Here we see a close up of the character’s face, this shot expresses the emotion in the character, which works well with the theme of the video.
Here is a shot taken from ‘Hall Of Fame’ music video from The Script. They wanted to create a silhouette effect which represents the characters dreams and ambitions. In this case as the character sleeps, they show a silhouette of him as a professional boxer. In order to create this effect they would have had to use particular lighting effects during the editing process as well as the filming process.
This is an establishing shot, used to show the mise en scene of the location. From this shot we can instantly see the area this character grew up in and gives off the impression that he may have had a tough upbringing, living in a poor part of New York. Having this shot in black and white emphasizes this point.
